The EPC's statutes have evolved over six decades to reflect the Club's growth, its values, and the changing expectations of a modern scientific society. They provide the governance framework that keeps the EPC accountable, transparent, and true to its founding principles.
EPC Statutes
When the EPC was founded in London in 1965, it operated informally, guided by shared values rather than written rules. As the Club grew, so did the need for structure. Internal Rules were first adopted in 1973, followed by formal statutes in 1992 — the year the EPC also joined United European Gastroenterology Federation (now UEG). The statutes were revised and expanded in 2001, and in 2019 the EPC was formally registered as an Austrian Verein, a non-profit association headquartered in Vienna.
The EPC's statutes are more than a legal document. They reflect the Club's core values: open scientific exchange, equal representation of basic and clinical scientists, support for early-career researchers, and collaboration across borders. They ensure that the EPC remains accountable to its members, transparent in its governance, and true to the founding vision of a society built on friendship, science, and a shared passion for pancreatology.
